The Committee to Restore
the Dove Shooting Ban With your participation and support, the citizens of Michigan can restore the shooting ban on this beloved backyard songbird. Dozens of groups are now working together to organize thousands of concerned citizens throughout the state to successfully collect the necessary number of signatures to qualify a referendum for the 2006 Ballot...there is much to do and the doves need you! The HSUS is very effective and has many news articles relating to dove hunting issues across the country on their site. Simply search 'mourning dove' in search the site box. They also have a legislative advocate in Lansing.
The Fund for Animals is very active and has helped defeat legislation to allow mourning dove hunting in several states, including Michigan.
Founded in 1955, SAPL is registered under the Federal Lobbying Act. They devote their entire effort to animal protective legislation and are active in the continued protection of Michigan's mourning doves.

Founded in 1968 and headquartered in CA, the Animal Protection Institute's Wildlife division works to protect mourning doves and the ecosystems upon which they depend, through public education, legislation and agency regulation, litigation, and advocacy.
A nonprofit organization that promotes the awareness, understanding, enjoyment, and stewardship of the environment and natural resources of the upper Great Lakes region by educating the public, supporting ecological research, maintaining sanctuaries, and by taking part in appropriate advocacy to protect the environment, with emphasis on birds and their habitats.
The MFHSAA is a 501(c)3, non-profit animal advocacy organization devoted to assisting individuals and organizations to help Michigan's non-human animals both domestic and wild.
Dedicated to serving the animals in Michigan since 1877, this group is against mourning dove hunting legislation and has a legislative advocate in Lansing.

Minnesota citizens do what they can for their peace dove. The Minnesota legislature buried a dove shooting measure in an unrelated bill to establish an unwanted dove shooting season in that state. The dove shooting language was included only by a "tie," which allowed it through. See more here.
Rhode Island is the only New England state to continue the practice of shooting doves, Defenders of Animals is working to change that.
The Greens oppose the shooting of Michigan's Bird of Peace.
